The blaming of the victim is often seen in rape and murder cases. The so-called Gay or Trans Panic Defense are used in trials in New Zealand, United States, Africa and Australia to get reduced punishment for the vicious hate crimes they committed. In South Africa so-called 'Corrective rapes' against gay, lesbian and people with gender identity issues have increased. Few get punished for their horrific hate crimes. In the general population a person is being raped every 17 seconds in South Africa, most of them are women, half of them under the age of 18.

My calling in photography is to create images that communicate a social commentary. For this project I work from a personal, cathartic approach, incorporating elements from real life events.
By creating a visual agenda, combining fine art, self-portraiture and real news stories I hope to create a discussion about some of the world’s worst human rights abuses.
